Chris Brown, the popular R&B artist, is walking free after being granted bail by a London judge while he awaits trial for allegations related to an assault. The singer, aged 36, was arrested last week at a hotel in Manchester and charged with grievous bodily harm following an incident at the Tape London nightclub on February 19, 2023.
During a court hearing at Southwark Crown Court, a judge authorized Brown's release, paving the way for him to embark on his world tour, starting June 8 in Amsterdam. Alongside his European stops in countries like Germany and France, he will also head to the U.S. once the tour progresses.
However, the judge, Tony Baumgartner, laid down strict regulations for Brown, necessitating that he surrender his passport when not touring and stay away from the nightclub in question. To secure his release, Brown’s team has deposited a hefty £5 million ($6.7 million) with the court, which may be forfeited if he violates any bail terms.
The trial date is set for June 20, where Brown and fellow American rapper Omololu Akinlolu, who was also charged related to the incident, will both appear. Until then, Brown has not entered a plea, and further details of the case remain under wraps due to legal restrictions on reporting.
