Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The couple's bodies, along with one of their dogs, were discovered after a maintenance worker reported the find to emergency services.
Authorities believe the couple had been deceased for some time. Hackman, 95, was located near the kitchen, while Arakawa, 65, was in a bathroom, showing signs of decomposition. Both of their bodies exhibited similar signs consistent with natural death, but the sheriff's office has labeled the situation "suspicious."
Despite a lack of visible injuries and no signs of forced entry into their home, investigators are exploring the possibility of gas poisoning, as a portable heater was found near Arakawa’s body. However, initial checks revealed no gas leaks in the area. Toxicology tests on both deceased individuals have been ordered to determine a cause of death.
The couple had last been seen by maintenance workers two weeks prior, and while their health seemed well, Hackman’s daughter reported he had been in “very good physical condition.” The investigation continues, raising questions about the circumstances of their unfortunate demise.
