In brief

A Belgian nonprofit brings elderly residents to clubbing, proving that age is just a number when it comes to having fun!

As the clock struck midnight, the Mirano nightclub in Brussels came alive, drawing a unique crowd—a group of spirited elderly residents from local retirement homes. Even in their 80s and 90s, these seniors weren’t about to miss out on the vibrant, pulsating energy the nightclub promised. The DJ spun lively tracks while patrons danced and laughed, but the real show-stealers were the silver-haired dancers, decked out in suits, sequins, and confident smiles.Guillaume Vanderweyen, at 99 years young, shared his thoughts after before hitting the dance floor for the first time in 40 years. “It’s a special night filled with happiness and new experiences,” he exclaimed, grooving to heavy beats long into the early morning hours. With a little help from daily exercise, Vanderweyen and his friends showed that they can hit the moves just as much as the younger crowd. This exhilarating outing, organized by the Belgian nonprofit Papy Booom, aims to combat loneliness among seniors and nurture a culture of fun. Joining him were 15 fellow residents, all ready to shake off the mundane and create happy memories, proving that age truly is just a number when it comes to enjoying life!
