In brief

Ukraine executed a massive drone attack on Russia, hitting Moscow and causing airport closures before proposed peace talks. The Russian authorities reported multiple casualties, while Ukraine suggested a cease-fire to halt extended strikes.

In a shocking turn of events, Ukraine carried out what has been described as one of its largest drone attacks during the ongoing conflict, targeting various locations across Russia, particularly the Moscow region. This dramatic assault took place before dawn on Tuesday and is seen as a striking reminder of Ukraine's military capabilities as discussions to terminate three years of fighting loom on the horizon.According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, an impressive total of 337 drones were intercepted, with 91 specifically aimed at Moscow. The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, called this the most extensive attack the city has experienced since the conflict erupted. Tragically, at least two individuals lost their lives, and 14 others sustained injuries, as confirmed by Russian officials. The drone strikes caused substantial disruption, damaging residential buildings in Moscow and leading to the temporary suspension of operations at all four major international airports servicing the city of over 21 million people. In the context of these events, Ukraine has proposed an immediate air truce, offering to cease long-range attacks into Russia if Moscow reciprocates with a halt of its own. Supported by several European nations, including France, this agreement is viewed as a potential stepping stone to building trust ahead of broader peace negotiations, which aim to address the staggering losses on both sides, with over a million soldiers killed or injured throughout this intense conflict.
