In brief
Authorities express concern over the trend of extremist ideologies attracting youth.
In a significant crackdown, German police have arrested five teenagers connected to a neo-Nazi group engaged in violent activities against asylum seekers. The teens, aged 14 to 18, were part of a group called the Last Wave of Defense, which was established last year and is known for orchestrating arson attacks. The arrests took place during a major raid across three states on Wednesday, following months of investigation involving over 220 police officers. Prosecutors stated that three of the suspects are key members of the group, while three others were already detained on related charges. Authorities are pursuing charges for attempted murder and arson against two of the arrested teens.Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig emphasized the troubling fact that all suspects are minors, pointing to a growing trend of youth involvement in right-wing extremism. “This is a warning sign that shows right-wing extremist terrorism knows no age,” she remarked on social media. The police also conducted searches at 13 locations as part of their comprehensive investigation.
