In brief
In a solemn meeting, Pope Francis thanked doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who aided his recovery from serious health complications earlier this year. At 88 years old, he continues to deal with frailty but has slowly resumed his responsibilities in Vatican.
Pope Francis, visibly weakened but grateful, met with healthcare personnel from Policlinico A. Gemelli in Rome on Wednesday, thanking them for their vital role in his recovery from life-threatening bronchial infections and double pneumonia earlier this year. "Thank you, thank you for everything you have done,” he expressed softly, urging them to keep him in their prayers.Despite this uplifting reunion, the Vatican announced that the pontiff would forgo leading the major Easter services, delegating his responsibilities to cardinals. His participation in Easter festivities remains uncertain although he might still deliver a blessing. Since his release from the hospital on March 23, following a significant 38-day recovery period, the Holy Father has been gradually increasing his activity. After nearly dying on two occasions during his hospital stay, he has focused on convalescence and physiotherapy and begun regular meetings with Vatican officials to carry on his duties and work on important documents.
