Napa's story adds to the extraordinary accounts of survival at sea, highlighting the power of human resilience and the importance of family.

Maximo Napa Castro, a 61-year-old fisherman from Peru, was on a routine two-week fishing trip when a storm left him lost at sea for 95 days. His family initiated a search but could not locate him until Ecuadorian patrols found him 1,094 km from the coast. Desperate and dehydrated, Maximo survived by capturing rainwater and eating whatever came his way, including turtles and birds, for the last 15 days without food. Upon being rescued, he was emotionally reunited with his family, who had faith he would return despite their fears. His story has since sparked celebrations back home, marking not just his miraculous survival but also his birthday during a life-threatening ordeal.
