In brief
French MP Pouria Amirshahi hopes to reverse his denied U.S. visa so he can meet progressive politicians and academics to discuss the Trump era.
In an unexpected turn, French lawmaker Pouria Amirshahi, part of the Green party, announced he was denied entry into the United States after applying for a visa to meet American lawmakers and intellectuals. Amirshahi planned to visit key cities like Washington D.C., New York, and Boston this month as the inaugural trip of his newly formed group, La Digue, aimed at tackling rising neo-fascism in democracies. The purpose of his trip, he stated, was to engage with U.S. lawmakers, activists, and scholars to gain insights into the political situation since Trump took office. However, just days before his trip, he received a rejection notice for his visa application, which he called "hostile and unfriendly." Since then, his team has reported that the embassy is reviewing the reasons for this controversial decision.
