In brief

Brussels is on high alert as authorities launch a manhunt following a shooting incident outside the Clemenceau metro station, involving two masked men.

The violence erupted early Wednesday morning in the Anderlecht district of southwest Brussels, where the gunmen fired rifles indiscriminately. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Eyewitness accounts and security camera footage revealed the suspects, armed with what appeared to be Kalashnikov rifles, firing while ignoring bystanders. Following the chaos, they fled into the metro station. Willemien Baert, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office, clarified that the attack does not seem to be linked to any terrorist motives. Investigators also found several bullet casings at the scene. As a precaution, the Clemenceau and Gare du Midi metro stations were closed for approximately four hours while law enforcement conducted an investigation into the shooting.
