British pop sensation Ed Sheeran was abruptly halted by local police while attempting to busk in Bengaluru, India, sparking an online uproar. The incident unfolded in the bustling Church Street area, where a police officer unplugged Sheeran's microphone, citing the absence of necessary permits.

Despite the interruption, Sheeran took to Instagram, asserting, "we had permission to busk," and that their performance was pre-planned. This occurred just before his scheduled concert on the Mathematics Tour at NICE Grounds.

Online reaction from fans was largely critical, with many lamenting the enforcement of stringent local regulations. "We live in an uncleocracy," one fan commented, lamenting the restrictive rules that often govern public spaces in India. In contrast, local politician PC Mohan emphasized that "even global stars must follow local rules."

Sheeran's visit is part of a 15-day tour of India, which has included performances in Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai, with more shows lined up in Shillong and Delhi. Notably, during his Bengaluru concert, Sheeran delighted fans by performing Telugu songs alongside artist Shilpa Rao, showing his intent to connect with local audiences.

As demand for live concerts surges in India, marked by Sheeran’s sweeping tour and other recent performances from artists like Dua Lipa and Coldplay, the country emerges as a key player in the concert economy, expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
