Apple is on track to raise iPhone prices because memory chip costs are spiking after a surge in AI demand.
Tim Cook told the Wall Street Journal that the chips are “unsustainable” and that price hikes are unavoidable.
Ram prices have doubled since October 2025 and helium shortages from the Iran war have added to chip costs.
Apple could lift iPhone 18 prices by up to $150, in line with models from Samsung, Sony and Nintendo that are also raising prices.
The global phone market is getting pricier, with average smartphone prices expected to jump 20% next year.
While the price bump may feel like a hit, the extra cost will fund stronger AI features and better performance.
