A potent winter storm is sweeping across the Upper Midwest, bringing blizzard-like conditions, treacherous travel, and potential power outages. The National Weather Service has warned of whiteout conditions in northern Plains and snowfall totals could reach over a foot in parts of the upper Great Lakes.
“Different regions will experience varying effects from this storm,” explained Bob Oravec, a forecaster. In North Dakota, wind chills could plummet to dangerous lows of minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
As cold fronts continue to sweep in, parts of the South are also bracing for severe thunderstorms, interrupting a spell of record warmth.
Temperatures in places like Atlanta are expected to drop from around 72°F to 25°F by Tuesday morning. This drastic weather shift marks the return of a more traditional winter climate. The incoming storm could intensify as it moves east, creating significant weather challenges for travelers during the holiday season.
