A man accused of impersonating a federal agent in a bid to allegedly free Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down the CEO of United Healthcare in 2024, has been arrested. Mark Anderson, 36, is accused of going to the New York jail where Mangione is being housed and allegedly posing as an FBI agent. He allegedly said he had paperwork that had been 'signed by a judge' to free the accused killer.

Although the complaint does not name Mangione, a law enforcement source confirmed to the BBC that Anderson sought to liberate him. Anderson appeared before a judge on Thursday and has yet to enter a plea.

He approached the intake area of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, claiming to be an FBI agent and that he had judge-signed paperwork for an inmate's release. When asked for credentials, he presented a Minnesota driver's license and made statements about possessing weapons. Following his unusual behavior, he was detained, and authorities discovered unusual items in his bag, notably a barbecue fork and a pizza cutter.

Anderson had traveled from Mankato, Minnesota, seeking a job opportunity and was reportedly working at a local pizzeria. He is now facing charges for impersonating an officer. Meanwhile, Mangione has been in custody since 2024, facing severe charges related to the murder of Brian Thompson, which has sparked significant debates over healthcare issues in the U.S.
