A massive avalanche on the 7,126‑metre Himlung Himal has left 10 Nepali climbers missing. These guides were setting up a base camp for foreign teams when a sudden snow slide took them away.
Local weather forecasts had warned of heavy snowfall, but the ice‑packed ridge unexpectedly gave way early Sunday morning, bringing a rush of snow and rocks down the flank.
Helicopters and ground crews are struggling to reach the site because of lingering snowstorms. Rescue teams have been carving a path through blizzard‑blasted slopes, hoping to locate survivors.
The incident comes after this month a similar disaster on Broad Peak in Pakistan killed six climbers, and after huge floods in Nepal that left thousands dead.
