The Israeli military says its air force has carried out its most powerful strike in Yemen in response to the Houthi movement's repeated drone and missile attacks on Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that dozens of aircraft bombed targets associated with the Houthis' security and intelligence services in Sanaa. The Houthi-run health ministry condemned these strikes as Israel's brutal crime, reporting that eight individuals were killed and many civilian structures were damaged.

Just a day earlier, a Houthi drone attack injured 22 people at an Israeli resort. The Houthis have been a significant threat since gaining control of much of north-western Yemen a decade ago, increasing their military actions following the onset of the war in Gaza in October 2023 while claiming to support the Palestinian cause.

Reports indicate that large plumes of smoke rose from Sanaa after the strikes, which coincided with a planned Houthi speech. Health authorities in Yemen reported extensive injury tolls, with ongoing search efforts for more casualties under collapsed buildings. Israeli officials assert that their military actions are necessary to protect against ongoing Houthi incursions, emphasizing their commitment to retaliatory actions against perceived threats from the group.
