In brief
Two tourists in Italy broke a stunning crystal chair while trying to capture the perfect photo. The museum director hopes they come forward to apologize for the damage, raising concerns about visitor behavior in art spaces.
In an unexpected twist of selfie culture, two tourists at Verona's Palazzo Maffei museum learned the hard way that not all artwork is meant for sitting. Caught on security cameras, the duo attempted to strike a pose on a dazzling chair adorned with Swarovski crystals, reminiscent of a seat from a well-known Vincent van Gogh painting. While posing, one of them lost balance and ended up sitting on the fragile chair, causing it to break. Quickly realizing the damage, they hurriedly left the museum before any authorities could arrive. Museum officials have reported the incident to local police, but they view it as an unfortunate accident rather than intentional vandalism. Vanessa Carlon, the museum director, expressed her hope that the pair would step forward to apologize, emphasizing the worrying lengths people might go for a memorable snapshot. “It wasn’t such a brilliant thought to sit on an artwork," she pointed out, highlighting the need for respect in art spaces.
