Hind Kabawat, Syria's Minister for Social Affairs and Labour, is breaking traditional barriers in a nation still healing from the scars of war. The only female minister in the transitional government, she reflects on her journey and confronts issues head-on, saying, I'm not here for window dressing. With an urgent agenda, she is focused on addressing the needs of the country’s most vulnerable, particularly women and children affected by the ongoing social strife.

In an interview, Kabawat expressed concern over the limited participation of women in government, stating, Mistakes happen in transition, but underscoring that more women need to take positions of power. With nearly 90% of Syrians living below the poverty line, her role is pivotal in the fight for social justice and equality.

During her visits to conflict-affected areas, including refugee camps, Kabawat demonstrates a hands-on approach, listening to the grievances of displaced families and pledging to address their needs through job creation, education, and community-driven initiatives.

Despite facing the daunting task of navigating the tumultuous political landscape of Syria, Hind Kabawat remains steadfast in her mission: to not only uplift women in leadership roles but to establish a new era of governance that empowers every citizen of Syria.
