Ledger of Loss: 15 Trapped in a Buildup A building fire in Lucknow killed at least 15 people on Monday. Authorities have ordered a formal inquiry into the dangerous blaze.

The three‑storey structure held a pet shop on the ground floor and an animation and 3‑D gaming centre on the upper levels. Witnesses say the fire gutted the single staircase that was the only exit, leaving occupants panic‑stricken and trapped.

Firefighters burst through a wall of a neighbouring building to reach the balcony and began rescue operations as thick smoke swirled. Sweepers had to clear broken panes and cables, with residents calling for help through windows. The exact cause of the blaze is still unknown.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak announced the investigation, while four officials were suspended and four suspects arrested. The tragedy adds to growing concerns over fire safety in densely occupied commercial buildings across India.
