CHICAGO (AP) — The Rev. Jesse Jackson, who has been receiving round-the-clock care at home, has been hospitalized due to progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), a rare neurological disorder. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over a decade ago, Jackson, 84, is currently being monitored in hospital after his condition worsened. His family is asking for prayers during this tough time.
There is some uncertainty regarding whether Jackson has both disorders, as they share similar symptoms. Since disclosing his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2017, he has continued to participate in public events, including the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Earlier this year, Jackson stepped down as head of his organization, with his son, Yusef Jackson, assuming leadership.
Using a wheelchair, Jackson has maintained some regular office presence until recently. Family members have been dedicated to providing constant care, with his son Jesse Jackson Jr. revealing that Jackson struggles with communication but can express affection by squeezing hands when visited.
