Dead in Brazil Rope‑Jump: No Rope Attached
A 21‑year‑old woman was buried after a rope‑jumping accident at Brazil's Skeleton Bridge in São Paulo state.
Video captured instructors carrying her from the edge of the abandoned bridge, then dropping her from a height of 40 metres (130 ft). The rope that should have restrained her was never attached, causing the fatal fall.
Police arrested three men who were with her that weekend, and investigators are looking into whether they bear responsibility for the tragedy.
State authorities say the bridge, managed by federal agencies, is abandoned and unsafe, and families are demanding action. The incident highlights the dangers of extreme sports on unmaintained infrastructure.
Safety groups are urging tighter regulation and inspections of rope‑jump sites across Brazil.
