Delhi’s streets turned tense when police rolled out a massive security operation to curb a growing protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The Gen‑Z movement, sparked by a joke about jobless youth, has called for electoral reforms and the chief election commissioner’s resignation.
Hundreds of protesters were caught, and three key leaders—including founder Abhijeet Dipke—were seized on a flight from Mumbai and dragged to undisclosed locations. The police denied comments, while the CJP continued to demand that the electoral roll update favor no party.
The protest was blocked before reaching the iconic Jantar Mantar, and buses packed with detainees were seen leaving the area. Amid road closures and mass transport cancellations, student activists urged their peers to ‘hold the line’ and keep the movement in motion.
The incident highlights the growing tension between youth‑driven movements and state authority, as India heads toward critical state elections. Around the world, the “cockroach” slogan has become a rallying cry for those who feel marginalized in the political arena.
