Comedy icon Dick Van Dyke celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday, marking another milestone in an illustrious career that began over six decades ago with his iconic roles in 'Mary Poppins' and 'The Dick Van Dyke Show'.
In an interview with ABC News at his Malibu home, Van Dyke humorously remarked, The funniest thing is, it’s not enough. You want to live more, which I plan to.”
Known for his charming performances, Van Dyke starred in significant productions and received numerous awards, including a Tony Award for 'Bye Bye Birdie' and several Emmys. In 2022, he became the oldest winner of a Daytime Emmy for his role in 'Days of Our Lives'.
Reflecting on aging, he shared wisdom about how he used to portray older characters, stating, I always played them as angry and cantankerous... it’s not really that way, offering a glimpse into his lighter perspective on life.
He also attributes his youthful spirit to his wife, Arlene Silver, who gives him energy and support. With a career that began at an early age, Van Dyke’s love for performance started when he played baby Jesus in a Christmas pageant, where his comedic flair first struck a chord with audiences.
Despite missing the physicality of youth, he still tries to dance, proving that humor and joy remain central to his life even in his 100th year.
