In brief

A deadly drone attack on Dammam's King Fahd International Airport killed two people and injured eight. The incident is part of a series of attacks by Yemen's Iran‑backed Houthi movement on Saudi air and energy infrastructure. Earlier that day, Saudi forces intercepted drones over the Eastern Province. The spike in violence comes as the Saudi‑led coalition continues to fight the Houthis over control of Yemen.

Attack on Dammam Airport

Two people were killed and eight others injured when a drone strike hit King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The victims were a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident, and the injured included Saudis, Indians, Yemenis, Bangladeshis and Nepalese.

Saudi officials haven’t revealed the exact type of attack, but the Iran‑backed Houthi movement has repeatedly targeted Saudi airports with drones and missiles.

Earlier that morning, the Saudi energy ministry said it had intercepted a drone over the Eastern Province that was trying to hit an Aramco processing facility, killing two civilians of Philippine and Nepalese nationality. Four more drones were intercepted that night.

The attack is part of the 21st fatal Houthi strike on Saudi aviation infrastructure this October. The Houthi fighters say they are striking back for Saudi air‑strikes on Yemeni territory.

The long‑running Yemen war began in 2014 when the Houthis ousted the recognised government, and the Saudi‑led coalition intervened. This summer, Houthi losses increased as the coalition pushed back, but fighting continues in strategic borders and shipping lanes.
