Dutch police arrested a suspected member of the ShinyHunters cyber‑crime group that claimed to have stolen data on all FBI staff – about 38,000 people.
The hackers said they had every agent's name, role, badge number and personal details including home address and phone numbers.
The suspect, a 24‑year‑old from Amsterdam, was arrested on 15 September before the alleged FBI attack and is also suspected of attempting to incite two murders.
Police found a large amount of information on his laptop, including details about two murders that were to be committed abroad.
Dutch officials have not ruled out further arrests and are working with the FBI to crack the network.
ShinyHunters has been responsible for high‑profile breaches, including a hack on Rockstar Games and a disruptive attack on the Canvas learning platform.
The group used a vulnerability in Oracle cloud storage to reach multiple FBI systems and stated it was not motivated by money.
The FBI thanked Dutch partners and urged any member of the group to hand itself in, warning that the longer the hackers stay hidden the more information investigators will gather.
Their public service announcement still labels the group as a serious threat actor, noting the group often sells access to personal data for payment.
