In brief
"Growing up in Chicago, Robert Francis Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, was known for his peaceful nature and aspirations of priesthood. His brother, Louis, shares memories and insights about the future pontiff, describing him as a conservative leader who will lead with compassion."
As a child in a Chicago suburb, Robert Francis Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV, was never the rough-and-tumble type; he preferred to play priest instead. His eldest brother, Louis Prevost, reminisced about their childhood and how they often joked about Robert's future as a pope, which has now surprisingly come true. Living in Port Charlotte, Florida, Louis reflected, “My brother’s the pope—yikes!” The three brothers, Louis, Rob, and John, were raised in Dolton, Illinois, with a firm grounding in their faith, attending church at St. Mary of the Assumption. Louis describes Robert as a natural peacemaker, recalling a playful past where he might’ve been a bit rough with his younger brother. Now, he anticipates a papacy that mirrors Pope Francis but thinks Robert may lean toward a slightly more conservative approach. Despite having differing views on issues like war, Louis, who served in the Navy, respects his brother’s pacifistic stance. He has yet to communicate with Pope Leo XIV since the election, reflecting the daunting thought of trying to reach a leader of the Catholic Church. Nonetheless, he is confident in Robert’s ability to lead, stating, “He’ll do a bang-up job.”
