French & UK Forces Seize Russian Oil Tanker
During a Sunday operation in the Atlantic, French naval officers boarded the tanker *Tagor*, which was flying a false flag. The ship is believed to belong to Russia’s “shadow fleet” – a covert network of tanker operators that keep Russian oil flowing past international sanctions.
México‑style President Emmanuel Macron tweeted that the move was carried out “in strict compliance with the law of the sea” and that it cut off money that fuels the war Russia has waged against Ukraine.
The UK’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that a helicopter from HMS Somerset tracked and monitored the vessel, offering critical support to the French operation.
The Tagor is already the fourth suspected shadow fleet ship that French authorities boarded since September last year. Together, the two nations say they will continue to target this illegal maritime activity.
