Garage Treasure: Three Lost Tracks of Chrissy Amphlett Unearthed

More than a decade after her death, the powerful voice of Australian rock legend Chrissy Amphlett is set to echo one more time. Three previously lost songs, recorded with New Zealand’s Tim Finn in 1998, have resurfaced after a startling garage discovery.

The tracks were created during a brief reunion when Amphlett, fresh from a split with Divinyls guitarist Mark McEntee, was looking to experiment. She and Finn spent several days writing and recording, while drummer Charley Drayton added his thumping beats. The result was a trio of powerful songs that Finn never let see the light of day.

Finn told the ABC’s Australian Story that the session felt “like a fresh adventure.” He kept the tapes after the studio session, but the demos never progressed. Fifty‑five years later, Drayton, who has worked closely with Amphlett, sent Finn a post that sparked curiosity. Finn then found the two‑inch tape – still in perfect condition – in his own garage.

Now these recordings will reach the world on Friday as part of an EP titled Some Times. The release promises to bring a piece of rock history back into the spotlight for both old‑school fans and new listeners.
