Residents in eastern Australia are reeling from the impact of Cyclone Alfred, which led to massive flooding and left hundreds of thousands without power. The storm, which weakened by the time it hit Brisbane over the weekend, brought heavy rain and strong winds, causing significant destruction across southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Tragically, a 61-year-old man's body was found in floodwaters, while 12 soldiers were injured after their convoy crashed while heading to assist with rescue operations. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned locals that flash flooding and damaging winds may continue, as emergency services have responded to over 6,000 calls for help.
Currently, nearly 290,000 homes in the affected areas are still without electricity, and energy companies anticipate that repairs could take several days. As rescue efforts continue, the situation remains critical for many communities dealing with rising waters and unstable conditions.
