In brief
Pavel Durov, co-founder of the messaging app Telegram, has been allowed to temporarily leave France despite facing multiple criminal charges related to illegal activities on the platform.
Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, has returned to Dubai after being granted permission to leave France where he is under investigation for serious crimes linked to his app. Initially detained last August, Durov was barred from exiting the country due to charges of complicity in facilitating illegal transactions, among other serious allegations. The Paris prosecutor's office announced that he can travel from March 15 to April 7 but must return for the ongoing investigation. Durov criticized the French authorities for the situation, claiming he shouldn't be held responsible for user-generated content on Telegram. Despite his legal troubles, he stated that he feels relieved to be back home. Telegram has since implemented stricter measures to monitor its platform and work with law enforcement agencies globally.
