Princess Anne made a significant visit to Ukraine, aimed at bringing attention to the traumatic experiences faced by children living in war zones. During her trip, she placed a toy bear at a memorial dedicated to children lost to the conflict and spoke with young survivors who have suffered at the hands of the violence engulfing their homeland.

The visit, arranged at the request of the UK Foreign Office, showcased the ongoing commitment from the UK to support Ukraine in its time of need. Anne met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, discussing ways the UK can assist in Ukraine's resistance against the invading forces while emphasizing the need to focus on the emotional and psychological scars suffered by young victims.

In her tour, the princess visited the Children's Memorial in Kharkiv alongside First Lady Olena Zelenska and met with staff and children at the Child Rights Protection Centre, which provides vital support services to those affected by the war.

Official estimates indicate that about 19,500 Ukrainian children have been forcibly uprooted from their homes since the escalation of the conflict in February 2022, with only a small number returning. The International Criminal Court has issued warrants for key figures in Russia for the alleged unlawful deportation of these children.

Princess Anne's visit serves not only to acknowledge the plight of these children but also as a reminder of the continuing impacts of the war, which has drawn the attention and support of various members of the British Royal Family over the course of the conflict.
