WILMINGTON, Del. — William Stevenson, a 77-year-old resident of Wilmington and former husband of current First Lady Jill Biden, has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, 64, discovered unresponsive at their home last December.
The grand jury indictment was filed recently, revealing that Stevenson was unable to post a bail set at $500,000. While police responded to a domestic dispute call at the couple's residence, they found Linda unresponsive, suggesting a potentially grim turn in their relationship.
Authorities have kept details about the motive for the murder under wraps, leaving many questions unanswered regarding their private life. This tragic event follows a series of statements from Stevenson earlier this year, where he depicted his prior marriage to Jill Biden in a negative light, stating that their separation was filled with conflict.
Linda Stevenson was remembered as a caring mother and a dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan, but her husband was notably absent from memorial acknowledgments. The couple shared a history that included Stevenson founding the iconic Stone Balloon music venue in Newark, Delaware. The former First Lady has chosen not to comment on the ongoing case.
