In brief

Kenya has registered a second Ebola case, a 39‑year‑old man who is a close relative of the first victim and had already been in quarantine. The Ministry says the two cases are linked and community spread has not been detected, urging calm vigilance. Early detection allowed better recovery chances and reduced further transmission. In DR Congo the outbreak has claimed over 4,000 lives so far, with no approved vaccine yet; research continues.

After a businessman from the Democratic Republic of Congo died in Nairobi, a second case has emerged – a 39‑year‑old man who is a close relative and had already been quarantined.

The Kenyan health ministry stressed that the two cases are connected and that no wider community spread has been detected, urging the public to stay calm but vigilant.

Ebola’s incubation period can be up to 21 days, so early detection in quarantine meant this patient’s chances of recovery were improved and the risk of further spread lowered.

Across DR Congo the outbreak has claimed over 4,000 lives so far with no approved vaccine yet – research and trials continue.

The ministry is tracing contacts: of the 128 people the first victim touched, 113 are now confirmed and 15 still under investigation.
