In Portugal, new searches are underway for Madeleine McCann, a British girl who disappeared 18 years ago during a family vacation. Police are focusing on an area near the Praia da Luz resort, where three-year-old Madeleine was last seen in May 2007. The operation, which commenced on Monday and is scheduled to conclude on Friday, was initiated following a legal request from German authorities investigating Christian Brückner, a German man identified as a primary suspect in the case. The Polícia Judiciária, Portugal's leading criminal investigation agency, confirmed that any evidence gathered will be transferred to agents from Germany's Federal Criminal Police Service, pending approval from the national Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Metropolitan Police, which initially led the investigation, is aware of these ongoing efforts and stands ready to assist if required.Mr. Brückner, 48, is currently serving a seven-year sentence in Germany for the 2005 rape of a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz. He remains the focal point of investigations into Madeleine's mysterious disappearance. As the search continues, the hope for answers remains alive.
