Former Harvard University President Larry Summers said he will step back from public commitments after his emails with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein were made public. I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused. I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr Epstein, Summers said in a statement obtained by CBS News. In emails released by Congress, Summers communicated with Epstein until the day before Epstein's arrest for sex trafficking minors in 2019. Officials are set to vote on releasing all files related to Epstein soon, as the US Department of Justice investigates Epstein's relationships with high-profile individuals, including former President Bill Clinton. Summers has served in multiple key roles, including as treasury secretary under Clinton and is currently a professor at Harvard. He expressed a desire to rebuild trust and repair relationships while continuing his teaching obligations, distancing himself from public engagements.
