OPELOUSAS, La. — Authorities have launched a manhunt for Keith Eli, the last of three inmates who escaped from a Louisiana jail after breaking through a decaying wall. The St. Landry Parish sheriff's office is urging Eli to surrender peacefully as they continue their search.
Eli, 24, who had been charged with second-degree murder, slipped out following an elaborate escape scheme that involved removing concrete blocks from the wall. His two accomplices encountered drastically different fates; one was captured after a brief chase, while the other tragically committed suicide when apprehended. The sheriff has emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to this significant security breach.
