MIAMI (AP) — Miami witnessed a dramatic transformation this Sunday as the former Mandarin Oriental hotel was demolished to make way for a new luxurious project.

The controlled implosion took place at 8:30 a.m., bringing down the 23-story building in less than 20 seconds with a series of explosive blasts. Spectators safely gathered at a distance cheered and recorded the event, capturing the moment the building crumbled into a cloud of dust.

Safety measures were taken for residents living within 800 feet of the site, who were advised to stay indoors with all windows and doors closed during the demolition.

This demolition is just the beginning as it sets the stage for ‘The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Miami,’ a high-end hotel and residential development planned to be completed by 2030. Developers noted that the implosion was carefully planned to ensure both safety and minimal disruption to the surrounding community.
