In brief
Arab leaders gear up for a crucial meeting to redefine the future of Gaza, focusing on Palestinian rights and unity.
In a significant move, leaders from the Gulf Arab states will convene in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this Friday to confront President Trump’s disputed plan for Gaza, which suggests U.S. control and the relocation of Palestinian residents. This meeting will include Egyptian and Jordanian counterparts, as preparations ramp up for a larger Arab League summit set for March 4 in Egypt.Trump's proposal, labeled by many as astonishing and outrageous, aims to turn Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” In response, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has challenged Arab leaders to present a superior alternative if they truly care about the Palestinian issue.Countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE are reportedly collaborating to create a new vision for Gaza. Their aim is to fund and facilitate the reconstruction of the enclave while ensuring two million Palestinians remain safely in their homes, which would also preserve the possibility of a Palestinian state. While various ambitious plans for Gaza's future have emerged, none have gained sustained support until now. The latest proposal from Emirati real estate developer Khalaf al-Habtoor claims a swift rejuvenation of the region could be achieved in years rather than decades.
