Nighttime Drone Strikes Hit Ukraine’s Kyiv Area, 27 People Killed

In the early hours of Saturday, a drone strike on the Kyiv region killed 27 people and injured dozens more, prompting the evacuation of 381 residents.

Ukrainian officials said Russia launched 233 drones, while Ukrainian forces also shot down an equal number of aircraft. The Governor of Kyiv, Tymur Tkachenko, confirmed the death toll and highlighted the injury of 42 civilians, including four children.

A 14‑year‑old was killed in an attack on Boryspil district, and separate casualties were reported in Bucha, where 42 people were wounded. Emergency services were on the scene, checking buildings for damage and conducting search and rescue operations.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences to the families and noted that more than 300 emergency responders had been deployed to the strike zone. He also mentioned additional overnight strikes in Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia.

The Ukrainian army claimed it shot down 233 drones that night, underscoring the intensifying conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Kremlin claimed strikes on Belgorod and Rostov, with Rostov Governor Yuri Slusar reporting injuries.

The attacks highlight the growing use of drones in warfare and the global call for increased security measures, sanctions, and support for affected communities worldwide.
