RICHMOND, Va. — Former President Barack Obama is set to campaign with Democrats Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill as they head into the final phase of their gubernatorial campaigns in Virginia and New Jersey.

Both candidates announced that Obama will join them for rallies on November 1 in Norfolk, Virginia, and Newark, New Jersey, just days before the pivotal election on November 4.

Obama recently endorsed both candidates, underscoring the significance of Virginia and New Jersey's elections as measures of the current political climate. In his endorsement, Obama stated, “Virginia’s elections are some of the most important in the country this year, and I am proud to endorse Abigail Spanberger for Governor.” He criticized Republican policies for imposing financial hardships on working families.

In Virginia, Spanberger faces Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, a Marine veteran. Meanwhile, Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey competes against former Assembly member Jack Ciattarelli, who has received backing from Donald Trump, indicating a split in party loyalty among voters.

The outcomes in both states are viewed as bellwethers for the sentiments toward the Republican Party and its major player, Trump, as the nation prepares for the upcoming midterm elections.
