Rute Cardoso, the wife of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, has shared a touching tribute on Instagram to honor what would have been their first month of marriage. This heartfelt post comes just three weeks after the footballer tragically died in a car crash. Rute included three photos from their wedding on June 22, captioned with "one month of our 'until death do us part'," and emphasized that she would be "forever" his.
The 28-year-old Jota lost his life on July 3 after a terrifying incident involving a Lamborghini he was riding in with his younger brother, Andre Silva, when a tyre blow-out led to a crash and fire in Cernadilla, Spain. Jota’s journey with Liverpool began when he joined the team from Wolves in 2020, where he recorded 65 goals in 182 matches, helped secure the FA and League Cup titles in 2022, and contributed to their Premier League success last season.
As a tribute, Liverpool has decided to retire the number 20 shirt Jota wore during his time at the club. Fans have also created a mural near Anfield, showcasing his number and heartfelt messages from the community.
