Russia fired a volley of guided bombs, hypersonic missiles and more than 125 drones across Ukraine: the strikes hit the eastern city of Kharkiv, the capital Kyiv, southern Zaporizhzhia and northeastern Sumy. Eight people were killed and dozens injured.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described the raids as "one of the most massive ballistic attacks" since Moscow began its full‑scale invasion in 2022. He also highlighted that Ukraine is targeting Russian “shadow” fleet tankers and oil depots to cut off the war’s financing.
Ukraine’s navy reported that a Turkish‑owned grain ship was hit in the Black Sea, killing five people. In retaliation, Ukrainian forces struck three Russian oil tankers, three oil depots in the southern Stavropol region and a Kazakh pipeline terminal, causing no spills but breaking oil loading operations.
The Russian missile arsenal used in the night attack included Iskander and the hypersonic Zircon missiles. Kyiv’s air defenses intercepted 18 of 41 missiles and 108 drones, showing the high stakes of air‑combat over the capital.
In addition to the lethal strikes, fires erupted in Ukrainian warehouses in the Bucha district near Kyiv, and Ukrainian drones destroyed two warehouses owned by Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, killing eight more civilians.
While Russia continues to pressure Ukrainian cities, Kiev calls for more ballistic‑missile interceptors from Europe and declared that protecting its cities is "our constant top priority right now".
