Saudi Shipping Firm Bahri Reports Tragic Incident
“It is with profound sadness that Bahri confirms the loss of two of its Filipino seafarers as a result of the incident,” the company said, adding that the tanker Sidr was hit by projectiles north of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula.
"The incident happened in the Strait of Hormuz at about 23:40 local time on Monday," the statement continued, emphasizing the tanker’s security breach.
“We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the families, loved ones, and colleagues of the deceased,” the company added.
“The incident is part of a wider pattern of Iranian attacks on commercial shipping during the current war,” a senior government official said, condemning Iran’s actions and urging a halt to escalation.
'In addition to the Sidr, a South‑Korean‑owned supertanker named Senegal Prosperity was struck by three unknown projectiles close to the same area, according to maritime security firms Marisks and Kpler.
'The Strait of Hormuz, which carries about one‑fifth of global oil shipments, has largely been closed since February due to Iranian missile and drone attacks and an American blockade.
'The U.S. and Iran reached a tentative agreement in June to reopen the strait, but the accord quickly collapsed after Iranian attacks resumed and the U.S. reinstated its blockade.
'The U.S. military is currently helping vessels navigate safe routes to bypass the Iranian‑preferred northern path.
'With the incursion of 17 million barrels of oil flowing through the strait on Monday, the region’s energy security remains a pressing global concern.
