In brief

The epic 70mm blockbuster The Odyssey was stolen and shared on X, drawing 2.1 million views in under three hours before the account was suspended. Hollywood reporters and Universal Studios have condemned the leak and called for legal action, but the film’s box‑office earnings have stayed robust. Despite a lower‑resolution version popping up and then being removed, the impact on revenue appears limited.

The Odyssey Leak: 2 M Views Spark X Frenzy

The epic 70mm blockbuster The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon and Zendaya and directed by Christopher Nolan, was ripped apart online when a high‑quality stolen copy made its way onto X. Variety said the post attracted 2.1 million views in just two and a half hours before the account was suspended.

A mixture of curiosity and disbelief went viral: one poster joked the film was “snapped straight into the tweet as Nolan intended,” while another admitted, “Someone leaked The Odyssey movie in HD. I thought it was fake, but it’s true.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported that a lower‑resolution version surfaced later, racked up almost 50,000 views, and was taken down within two hours of being posted. Universal Studios quickly announced it was “initiating takedown protocols” and would pursue legal remedies.

Despite the online buzz, the movie’s box‑office impact appears minimal. It has already grossed $215 million (about £160 million) worldwide during its second weekend, taking the cumulative total to $640 million (£480 million).
