LELAND, Miss. (AP) — Tragedy struck in Leland, Mississippi, during a beloved homecoming celebration as a mass shooting erupted, claiming the lives of six individuals and injuring over a dozen more. Local police and the FBI are actively seeking the public's assistance in identifying persons of interest involved in the chaotic scene that unfolded shortly after a high school football game.

Authorities, including Mayor John Lee, have expressed disbelief at the violence that disrupted what is usually a joyful community gathering. A news conference is scheduled at Leland City Hall where updates will be shared on the investigation and advice on how residents can help. “We’re still trying to gather information on possible suspects out there,” said Mayor Lee.

The shooting, described as the deadliest of the recent incidents in Mississippi, appears to have stemmed from a disagreement among individuals present at the celebration. Witnesses recounted horrific scenes of chaos and fear, with one witness saying, “It was the most horrific scene I’d ever seen.” As families mourn their loved ones and the community attempts to process this unimaginable event, those responsible for the outbreak of violence remain at large.
