President Donald Trump aggressively responded to a 90-second video featuring six Democratic lawmakers who urged military personnel to defy illegal orders, even accusing them of sedition ‘punishable by DEATH.’ The video, shared by Senator Elissa Slotkin, showed the lawmakers appealing directly to U.S. service members, emphasizing their constitutional duties during challenging times.
Slotkin stated, “The American people need you to stand up for our laws and our Constitution.” Trump's reposts were filled with accusations of 'seditious behavior' and calls for arrests. In stark political contrast, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer cautioned that such rhetoric could incite violence.
Critics within Congress condemned Trump’s comments, while supporters labeled the Democratic initiative as ‘insurrection.’ The Pentagon also emphasized that military orders must comply with laws, challenging claims of illegal directives. This episode marks a significant flashpoint in U.S. political discourse, fuelling debate about law, authority, and military ethics.
