Trump’s re‑brand of AI to Super Intelligence has sent Slovenia’s domain market into overdrive.
When the former president called for the tech industry to ditch the term "artificial intelligence" in favour of "SI" at the UN General Assembly, the same initials caught the eye of domain buyers in Ljubljana.
A staggering 44,000 new .si addresses were registered in September – up 2,100% from the fewer than 2,000 in August.
“The scale of activity in late September was unprecedented compared to the previous 12 months,” said Klara Herman, spokeswoman at the national registry.
Speculators believe the surge may be a case of buying “future value” – picking catchy names like superintelligence.si that could become pricey once the term gains traction.
The U.S. executive order attached to Trump’s summit mandates that all federal agencies start using SI in official documents, websites and reports, effectively dropping AI from the lexicon.
While it’s unclear if the spike is solely because of Trump’s announcement, the sudden demand shows how a single headline can ripple into global internet trends.
