President Donald Trump confirmed he asked FIFA to review the one‑match ban for U.S. striker Folarin Balogun.
Balogun was set to miss the last‑16 match against Belgium after a straight red card for a foul on Bosnia‑Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic.
On Sunday FIFA reversed the automatic suspension for 12 months, letting Balogun play in Seattle.
During a White House address, Trump said he had asked the federation to review the decision, claiming the referee’s call was “horrible” and “suspect.”
The U.S. team welcomed the move, but the Royal Belgian Football Association said it “was astonished” and vowed to defend fair play.
FIFA remains silent, saying it has no additional comments at this stage.
Balogun, 25, scored three goals at the World Cup, and his return could change the U.S. match dynamic.
