In brief
As tensions rise, Zelensky adopts a more conciliatory tone to ensure support for Ukraine during ongoing war.
After facing a tough meeting with President Trump at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sought guidance from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron on how to improve relations. Officials close to both leaders revealed that the discussions were sparked by Trump’s announcement to suspend U.S. military aid to Ukraine.Initially, Starmer suggested Zelensky return to the White House, but both sides agreed to let tensions cool first. Over the following five days, both leaders encouraged Zelensky to soften his stance towards Trump. In response to the U.S. aid cutoff, Zelensky shifted his approach, publicly expressing gratitude for U.S. support and addressing Trump’s claims regarding Ukraine’s commitment to peace. He outlined potential steps to achieve a lasting settlement, such as stopping missile strikes, signaling Ukraine's willingness to collaborate under Trump's leadership for a peaceful resolution.
