Why French Students Are Taking to the Streets

\

More than 500 schools across France are hit by student walk‑outs that began in Paris two weeks ago. The students are angry about new school rules that they say hurt their education and future jobs.

\

The protests started with a few hundred teenagers in the capital. Now they have spread to big cities, small towns and remote villages. When students threw projectiles at the police, guards used tear gas, and at least 65 teachers and aides were injured.

\

BBC reporter James Waterhouse was on the front lines in Paris and captured the chaos. He showed shots of students hurling rocks, police shooing them away and police spraying tear gas.

Why did this all happen? The government wants to reduce the number of school holidays and give teachers more time for training. Students say this will shorten the school year and make it harder to get good grades and jobs. Many believe this is a step back for their future.

All of this shows how loyalty to school and a good future can push people to stand up for what’s right. If you want to learn more, keep watching the videos and look for the official school website for updates.
