In brief
A Hungarian man clung to the outside of a speeding German ICE train after missing the doors while trying to smoke. He survived a 30km ride at 175mph and is now facing charges.
A fascinating escapade unfolded when a fare-dodging Hungarian man tried to enjoy a cigarette at Ingolstadt station, only to find himself left behind as the doors of the ICE train closed. With no valid ticket and his luggage on board, he took an extreme measure by jumping onto a bracket between two carriages. Clinging to cables, he went on a wild ride as the train sped up to 282 km/h (175 mph) towards Nuremberg. Wondering how this could happen? Witnesses quickly alerted authorities, and the train driver made an emergency stop after about 30 kilometers. Thankfully, the man was unharmed during his risky adventure. A police officer traveling on the train brought him back on board, where he was eventually turned over to federal police in Nuremberg. However, the incident did not end there; the man is now under investigation for benefit fraud and will face charges for disrupting operations. Authorities are reminding everyone that taking such dangerous risks is not worth it—safety should always come first on Germany's trains!
